Join A Committee
There are two kinds of committees at First Parish:
- Standing Committees (whose chairs are elected and committee members are recommended by the Nominating Committee at the Annual Meeting in June of each year), and
- Committees of the Parish Committee (whose membership is appointed by the Parish Committee).
More information on any committee is available in the Bylaws. If you are interested in joining a committee, speak with a member of the committee, a member of the Nominating Committee (for Standing Committees), or a member of the Parish Committee (for Committees of the Parish Committee).
Church Services oversees the various facets that make up the Sunday morning worship: music, guest speakers, special services and so on.
Religious Education is responsible for the educational activities for the youth of the Parish.
Finance prepares the annual operating budget, handles the Sunday collection and pledge tracking, and approves fundraising plans.
Program plans a variety of social events for the Parish.
Buildings and Grounds maintains and improves the property and buildings. They oversee our renters and rental contracts.
Social Action sponsors Parish programs related to social concerns that may be of international, national, or local interest and of a service, advocacy, or informational nature.
Membership welcomes our visitors and friends and works to enhance our membership growth, and orchestrates rides and other help if needed.
Committees of the Parish Committee
Committee on Ministry meets monthly with the minister to assess the ministry of First Parish.
Denominational Affairs informs the congregation about events and programs sponsored by the New England district and the Unitarian Universalist Association (UUA).
Memorial Fund expends memorial fund monies in response to written proposals from members for projects to improve First Parish.
Nominating prepares a slate of names for election at the Annual Meeting to the Standing Committees and Parish Committee, and recommends to the Parish Committee individuals to fill mid-term vacancies.
Stewardship is responsible for providing members and friends with an opportunity to contribute financially so the goals of the congregation can be realized.
All meetings are open to the membership, and you are welcome to attend any committee meeting.
