First Parish seeks ways in which we can serve the wider community — both in our own towns and on a broader scale. Upcoming efforts will be posted here.
Once a month we donate the cash offering from a Sunday service to a selected organization. In the past these donations have gone to Oxfam America, Old Colony Hospice, A New Day, Father Bill’s, and our own Unitarian Universalist organizations that serve populations at risk. The Unitarian Universalist Urban Ministry (UUUM) receives the Christmas Eve donation, and we take up a special collection for the Unitarian Universalist Service Committee (UUSC) each year.
In January and February the children’s program is focused on service to others, and they conduct a vigorous campaign to contribute food to the Canton Food Pantry. They also raise funds for various causes, such as the Animal Shelter, by making and auctioning gingerbread houses at Christmas.
Our Unitarian Universalist Association provides us with study materials so that we can become informed about issues affecting the well-being of all people of the world. We engage in discussion about these issues and support appropriate actions.
