Be prepared to be amazed

The other day a co-worker recommended I check out this TED Talk by Celeste Headlee: 10 ways to have a better conversation:

I liked the way Celeste summarized the topic by saying “Be prepared to be amazed.” Very often when I have been in conversation with someone, another thought enters my mind, and I can’t wait to share it. Or, as they relate an experience they had, it reminds me of something, and I just gotta jump in and say what happened to me. But now that I reflect on those times, I realize that I may not have been truly listening anymore. At First Parish I cherish our deep and meaningful conversations and how we are comfortable opening up to one another. Celeste reminds me that I should go with the flow and not let those thoughts that drift into my mind become my only focus. There will be time for me to share too. But first, I want to be amazed by what you have to say.
