Why We Pledge

I pledge because I know that we are a self-sustaining congregation. Our contributions keep the church physically open, pay for our minister and staff, and assist us to continue the good works of the church internally and externally to our surrounding community.
— John D.

I pledge financial support to help provide a place for the exchange of progressive ideas, a social and emotional safety net/network for members, and to support social justice efforts in the wider community. FPUU-Canton was there when I was first searching for a spiritual home and it’s important to me that it continues to be available to future seekers.
— Diana L.

Pledging to my First Parish UU church community is how I carry my part of what it takes to keep the doors open, the lights and heat on, etc. We want to be in a position to hire an outstanding minister and staff. To meet our goals our congregation needs to dig deep at this troubled time. I hope each member will take time to ponder and do the right thing.
— Bette W.

I pledge to help ensure that FPUU is here when someone new walks in, like I did 40+ years ago, looking for a church home. And I pledge because I have always felt “at home” here, and nowhere else I have tried.
— David B.

I pledge because this is my home church, with friends who know me, reach out to me, and let me know when they need me to reach out to them. Our LGBTQ and racism discussions have been thought provoking and soul searching.
— Barbara C.

I have pledged my support to First Parish for more than 30 years – for the music I’ve heard and been a part of; for the grounding in UU principles my children now live by as adults; for the challenge and inspiration in weekly services; and for the community that helps me understand the time ahead of me.
—  Tom H.

I pledge because I feel very connected with the men and women who have sat here and in other similar congregations for the last 200 odd years. I feel part of a long tradition – not a family tradition because like many of you I am a first-generation UU – but rather an intellectual and spiritual tradition.
— Ellen F.

I pledge because I consider First Parish as my spiritual home. It is a place where I can learn and grow as well as meet and learn from other folks who hold a diversity of beliefs.
— Larry C.

I pledge because I decided to make a conscious commitment to support the First Parish community, and because I know it makes it easier for the leadership of the church to plan and manage not just the day-to-day operations but also for the future.
— Jonette N.
