May 24 – Public Memory, Creative Art, and Theology
By Barbara Casaly, April 13, 2026
10:30 AM [Zoom option available]
Led by Rev. Dr. Michelle Walsh
For this Memorial Day weekend service, let’s consider the role of creative art in the creation of public memorials and what this signifies for our national values, tensions, and theology. Along the way, we’ll also consider the origins of Memorial Day in Decoration Day historically in the aftermath of the Civil War, an early sign of value tensions to come that remain with us today. This service also will be a shared service with our Five Points Cluster sibling congregations, so let us welcome them in person and on Zoom!
Guest musicians: Rita and Norman Corey
Rita Corey has been an organist/choir director for many years in the Boston area, largely in liturgical churches, serving most recently at
Holy Trinity Lutheran Church in N Easton. She retired from that church in June 2025. During the summer of 2025, Norman Corey retired from the United First Parish Church in Quincy Center, where he served as organist/choir director for 43 years. Both grew up in New York State, attended the University of Rochester, meeting in their organ teacher’s choir and the rest is history! They have lived in Sharon since 1987. Their son, Jonathan, is the Music Director at the Unitarian Universalist Community Church in Glen Allen, VA.
This service will be in person in the Sanctuary and virtual on Zoom.
